Article Marketing has saved many online careers (I'm living proof). I was totally green to the world of Internet Marketing. I kept hearing all these stories about people making hundreds of thousands of dollars every month, and I thought "Yeah, this is for me". The problem turned out that I was paying more attention to all the so-called gurus out there.
A word of warning about them. Some of them are real good and provide lots of quality information. Some of them are just plain awful. But that vast majority of them (good or bad) don't have the slightest clue how to speak to new or struggling marketers. The majority talk to you like you already know everything. They talk to you like you are already a graduate of some made up IM university. So they tell you to do things that you are just not ready for. I used to be one of them. Then, a phrase hit me like a ton of bricks. STICK TO THE BASICS!
If you want to make your first dollars online, there is nothing better than article marketing. Simplicity is the key here, and it doesn't get much simpler than article marketing. You get a product to promote and you write an article on it. Simple as that. No SEO, PPC, CSS, PHP, or any other of those acronyms that you are just not ready to learn. After you are making consistent money online, then it's time to graduate and build a legitimate online business. But remember, you don't start off as senior in this industry, you start off as a freshmen. So don't let the seniors fool you.
